Bathroom tile. What to do?

October 18, 2009 |  by Brooke Tansley

So our house is Spanish Revival/Craftsman transitional. Love Craftsman. Not as in love with Spanish Revival. Love Modern. What to do?

We won’t be getting to the bathroom till around May/June, so we’ve got time to make up our minds.

I had the idea today of taking one of those hand painted Spanish or Mexican tiles, blowing up the pattern to the size of one wall, and doing a glass mosaic. I haven’t found the tile yet, but I fiddled with some random ones in Photoshop today.

I’m thinking that a simple white or ivory mosaic tile would be good for the rest.

What do you think? Any ideas?

This would go with our pour-in-place concrete/flyash tub and floor.

Another idea – using a Mexican wood buffet as a vanity. Look…
Buffet Lamina

This one is from – shocker – DeMejico. Another DeMejico piece…

Trastero Hacienda 4 Puertas

This piece would be set into the wall opposite the vanity and provide extra storage.

These pieces have two things going for them: 1. they honor the style of home and the neighborhood, and 2. clean lines.

This might be a good excuse for a road trip to Mexico…
