A new year, a new lawn with no mow grass.

November 23, 2009 |  by Brooke Tansley

The next project on our horizon is the backyard landscaping. Here’s the general breakdown of what we hope to start in January and finish by May:

- level yard
- design and install drainage & rainwater collection system
- build entertainment area
- design and install small sprinkler system
- plant lawn

If we really rock it we’ll get to some of these:

- relocate backyard water source
- build deck and laundry nook
- build pergola
- plants
- lighting
- outdoor shower & spool (small pool)

I found our grass. NoMowGrass.com sells a hot & dry climate blend of alpine/dwarf fescue and supine bent that grows in 5-10 days and only takes 3 weeks to fill out. It only needs to be mowed 1-3 times per year (depending on your taste) and during the hottest months only needs 3 light waterings per week.

The lawn will be 500-550 square feet.
