Here are some borderline renegade thoughts in the home reno blogosphere.
-
1. No, I have not seen The Money Pit. I have to see it? No, I don’t have to see it.
-
2. I don’t like stuff. Tchotchkies. Knick knacks. Bric-a-brac. Stuff that you have to dust. If it takes up space and doesn’t do anything, it’s out. I do, however, like looking at your stuff.
-
3. I don’t like fresh cut flowers. I like when they’re given to me, but I would never buy ‘um. I’d rather pick up a potted plant any day.
-
4. I don’t like animated movies made in the past couple of decades. Animated movies have taken a torturous turn. Here’s how it goes. A bunch of creative folks come up with the cutest, most sympathetic character one can imagine, and because it isn’t real and most of the time not human, it has no flaws. Now let’s torture said character for 90 minutes. Yes, I know Up! is an awesome movie. I believe you, but Toy Story 2 was a turning point for me. I will never watch them. It’s just to hard on me.
What are your renegade thoughts?
:) Brooke

1.) I don’t even know what the money pit is. Unless you’re talking about my house under construction… which is more like a money black hole.
2.) Agree. I’m minimizing my “stuff” but what the hell am I supposed to do with all the stuff my MIL keeps buying me?
3.) Cut flowers are pretty for a week, but a potted plant is forever. I’m with ya.
4.) Hmm. I can’t tell you the last animated movie I saw, unless Avatar counts.
1.) No I do not feel that I have to see every movie recommended to me. I also do not let the critic’s ratings deter me if I do want to see a movie. Seems the critics and I do not agree most of the time.
2.) I too, am simplifying my life and no longer want to collect or keep things that have to be dusted. I do try to recycle when I can, but hubby and I simply do not drink enough sodas and beer to collect for more than a year to fill the recycle bin. So, for sanity and cleanliness, the bottles and cans go out in the trash. Maybe if the grocery store had a glass and can recycle bin, I would take it along with my plastic bags for recycling. On the other hand, I do not like using the cloth tote bags for my groceries as the store fills them so full, I can not carry them, even when I ask them to fill only half full. I find I have to stop at the end of the cash register line and rebag all my purchases. I also use the plastic bags for when I scoop the cat liter boxes.
3.) When I was single, I would purchase a $10 potted rose bush to put on my balcony. It brought much joy and lasted a lot longer than a $10 cut rose arrangement to put in a vase. Unfortunately, I have a black thumb and the bush usually only lasted a year, but it was a year of joy.
4.) I keep asking myself, age 63, what the difference is in the animated movies and cartoons being produced now versus the ones I grew up watching: Sylvester & Tweety, Road Runner, Popeye, etc.
The old ones had their form of violence. The only thing I can think of is they were cartoons that we laughed at and did not take seriously.
On the other hand, I can’t stand to watch the Simpsons and newer “cartoons” as they often show disrespect for parents, teachers and others. Sadly, they are often reflections of what I see when I substitute in the public schools.
5.) So often we hear that life is the journey, not the destination. I hope you are enjoying the journey of your home renovations.
